When You Should Elope in Boulder & How to Pick Your Date

Choosing the perfect time to elope in Boulder, Colorado depends on your preferences, priorities, and the overall atmosphere you envision for your special day. To choose the perfect date, you should consider things like the season, weather patterns, local events, vendors, and personal significance. Here’s a breakdown of the different seasons in Boulder and the things newlyweds love about each of them:

Springtime in Boulder brings wildflowers, mild temperatures, and lush greenery. This season is perfect for couples who appreciate the beauty of nature and want to exchange vows surrounded by vibrant colors and fragrant blooms.

Summer is peak wedding season in Boulder, thanks to its warm temperatures and long daylight hours. Couples who choose to elope during this time can enjoy sunny days, clear skies, and opportunities for outdoor activities.

Fall is the most popular time for a Boulder elopement. Couples love its stunning foliage and crisp, cool weather. Additionally, the color changes provide stunning photographs! The crowds begin to die down at this time of year. Make sure to bring some extra layers because once the sun goes down and before it comes up it can get pretty chilly on the trails.

Winters bring a cozy and romantic atmosphere. Couples love the look of snowy landscapes, fireplaces, and holiday lights. It’s one of the most accessible places to have an elopement in the wintertime; while most places require snow tires and AWD through the mountains, you can easily get to most of these boulder locations regardless of weather conditions.

How to Get a Boulder Marriage License

Getting your marriage license is an important step to consider as you near your Boulder elopement day. Here, you will need to pay $30 and bring your ID and your social security number!

What to Wear to Your Boulder Elopement

Something that I love about the Boulder area and its stunning elopement locations is the accessibility and ease of the locations. This makes it fairly easy to do whatever you would like for your elopement ceremony!

Though rocky in some places, a majority of these popular spots have pretty even ground. I find that most people go the traditional route with gowns and suits. Truly, whatever you wear on your elopement day should be something you feel comfortable in. Depending on the weather at that time of year, most couples find looser, flowier options work best to mimic the natural movement of the landscape. These options also photograph really well!

How Much Does a Boulder Elopement Cost?

As stated before, the average cost of a marriage license is about $30 in the Boulder area. Overall, the cost of eloping in Boulder can vary depending on various factors such as the chosen venue, the number of guests, vendors hired, and the couple’s specific preferences. However, due to their smaller scale and simpler nature, elopements generally tend to be more budget-friendly compared to traditional weddings. There is a limit to how many guests are allowed on the boulder trails for an elopement. If you are planning to have a bigger ceremony and more guests, check out Chautauqua Green for more information.

For couples looking to elope on a tighter budget, there are plenty of cost-saving options available. Opting for a public park or natural setting for the ceremony can often be more affordable than renting a private venue. Additionally, choosing vendors who specialize in elopements or offer elopement packages may help reduce costs.
